Much of the allure of the divine diamond comes from its innate contradictions, intriguing dualities that endlessly fascinate and captivate. An aeons-old, yet ageless, symbol of power, both physical and spiritual, the diamond has been both a magical, sacred amulet, its brilliance representing divine power; an intermediary between man and the otherworldly forces that governed his fate; and also a very concrete form of wealth, a rare and valuable worldly treasure, traded since the earliest times.

Throughout history, the diamond has encapsulated mysteries, scientific and metaphysical, as unfathomable as its infinite unfolding depths, making it, like the divine power it embodied, ultimately unknowable.

The dualities begin with the physical make-up of the diamond: one of the rarest substances on earth, the diamond is formed from carbon, one of the most abundant and common elements on the planet. In this sense the diamond is both extraordinary and ordinary. It is the hardest material known to man, but the one most deeply imbued with the softness of romance. Just as it brings together science and poetry, mineralogy and art, the earthly and the otherworldly, so it combines and contrasts fire and ice, clarity and mystery, instinct and rationality, material and immaterial.

Alongside its beauty and brilliance, its unassailable glamour, and the awe-inspiring wonder it brings, it is the diamond’s contradictions that continue to captivate. Its alchemy, the way it can change us, the way we look and feel, stability in a world of impermanence, order in a world of chaos. Because through all these dualities, the diamond embodies transformation, metamorphosis and the journey towards light, an awakened consciousness. Enlightenment.
