De Beers is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of diamond jewellery creation. Through our innovation in design and craftsmanship we explore new frontiers of diamond artistry.
Inspiration & design
Every De Beers design begins with the diamond – it is the inspiration for all of our creations.
As The Jeweller of Light we honour our sparkling muse as the ultimate treasure of nature with a minimal use of metal, allowing the diamond to shine with maximum Fire, Life and Brilliance. By honouring the light of the diamond in each of our creations, we are able to bring a brightness, a femininity and a delicacy to each of our wondrous designs.
Beyond the diamond, we look for phenomena in the natural world, seeking exceptional displays of wonder to influence our collections. By exploring nature and its wealth of innate beauty, we are able to bring an elegance and timeless appeal to each of our exquisite creations.
Simultaneously, we take inspiration from the women that wear our exceptional designs. With a beautiful balance of power and grace, we are inspired in our artistic creativity to create pieces of equal femininity, strength and poise.
Our Head Designer, Hollie Bonneville, describes the De Beers design process: “It is an emotional journey; from design through to the interpretation by our master craftsman and finally the diamond selection. Every project is different but the common threads really come from nature and the diamond. Both express Power and Grace. Within both there is life, light and wonder. The female muse also plays a pivotal role in the design process. The woman is at the heart of the jewellery we are creating and we want to honour her with something that is sensual and dynamic.”
Our ethos draws upon the ancient heritage of the diamond and our own 125 years of expertise to bring it into the light and match the infinitely detailed perfection of nature.
We strive for innovation in craftsmanship; we have pioneered new techniques and continually explore more intricate designs to raise the bar in the crafting of diamond jewellery. With the Talisman collection, introduced in 2005, we developed a Serti-Poinçon method adding texture to the metal with a hammered technique. The collection also brought together rough and polished diamonds for the first time – once the exclusive privilege of kings and queens the rough diamonds add a timeless mystique to the contemporary design.
The unique High Jewellery creations in the Aria collection, unveiled in 2014, bring a new material and artistry to De Beers. Aventurine was used for the first time in High Jewellery to create a wondrous contrast between the mysterious dark blue of the Aventurine and the sparkling brilliance of the diamond.
De Beers works with trusted ateliers, each experts in the creation of exceptional pieces that nurture our diamonds. As a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council, we work closely with each workshop to ensure the highest level of craftsmanship and integrity.
